Getting to Chippenham by train
Chippenham railway station is on the historic main line engineered by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and today most services are run by Great Western Railway (GWR). Trains are frequent throughout the day, and many routes are direct.
From London
Direct trains run from London Paddington to Chippenham many times a day. The fastest services take a little over an hour, with typical journeys around 70 to 80 minutes. From the M4
Chippenham is about 4 miles south of junction 17 of the M4. Leave the motorway at junction 17 and follow the A350 south towards Chippenham. The M4 connects Chippenham with London and Reading to the east and Bristol and South Wales to the west, so journey times by car are competitive with the train for many routes outside central London.
From Bath
From Bath, follow the A4 east through Box and Corsham to Chippenham. The drive is around 13 miles and takes roughly 30 to 40 minutes, depending on traffic.
From the south
The A350 runs north-south through western Wiltshire, linking Chippenham with Melksham, Warminster and the south coast. It is also the road to use for Lacock, just south of town.
Parking at The Pines
Guests can park free of charge at the front and rear of the house, and there are more free spaces on the road opposite. The rear entrance is slightly narrow, so drivers of larger vans or cars towing trailers may prefer the front or the road opposite.
Getting to Chippenham by bus and coach
Local bus services link Chippenham with nearby towns and villages, including Bath, Corsham, Calne, Lacock and Devizes. The nearest bus stop for services towards Bath is about 100 metres from The Pines, and the stop for the return journey is around 150 metres away. Timetables and route numbers change from time to time, so check with the operator or a journey planner before you travel. Long-distance coach options are more limited than rail, so for most journeys the train is the better choice.
Getting to Chippenham by air
The nearest major airport is Bristol Airport, which is roughly an hour's drive from Chippenham depending on traffic. You can also travel from Bristol Airport by airport bus to Bristol Temple Meads and then take a train to Chippenham.
For international flights via London Heathrow, the usual route is to travel into London Paddington by rail and then take a direct train to Chippenham, or to use the coach link between Heathrow and Reading station and continue by train from Reading.
